I've been in the media business for quite some time, but got involved in my first tech venture 8 years ago, and there is nothing else in the planet as Web Summit.
The atmosphere, expectations, the level of idea exchange is unique, and every year it grows to the point of surpassing by far everyones expectations.
You see how companies are merged, new partners are found, and excellence is pushed to the limit in a 3 day time frame, that changes companies for ever.
Cant wait to see what we witness this time!

the 2016 edition
is organized by the people behind Web Summit (probably the largest conference in the world with over 50,000 attendees last year). In just a few years since its inception, RISE has grown to be THE largest conference in South East Asia and they are estimating 20,000+ attendees in 2018.

If you’re a startup and looking to get face time with investors, RISE is the place to be. SEA’s largest VC’s, accelerators and early stage funds converge at RISE mainly because it’s right at the pulse of the SEA ecosystem. The Startup demo stands see over 500+ startups, the majority being from countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, India, China, Indonesia and Phillipines (Asia’a fastest growing startup ecosystems). You will see a great mix of tech, hardware startups using a variety of technologies to disrupt their market. Personally, walking through the startup pods and interacting with the founders was what I found most rewarding. If you’re looking to meet investors, my advice is use the networking app and schedule meetings, keep your pitch short and sweet and do some research before approaching them (their past investments, portfolio etc). Contrary to popular perception, your chances of eliciting a response/being heard from investors through Linkedin or Email is much lower as compared to these events. I once happened to stumble upon the inbox of a friend who worked at a premier VC fund; she had a label for pitch decks with over 2500 unread messages (No, she wasn’t inefficient- just knew what to look for).

Virtual Reality use by the Foundation Charity Water
An example of how a foundation uses it. www.charitywater.org @oculus @gopro and @samsung are changing the world for the best!
That post is a link to an epic story, and is just one use you can give to the VR device, if someone can use the headset and VR cameras to communicate something building such a huge impact in people, imagine what a more elaborate and solely devoted to tech company could do. The implications VR will have in different industries is just overwhelming. |
Much more than just a great tech conference

There were so many new companies, so much to show, but the integration, the use of the latest technologies into great causes are always amazing to showcase.
The story is amazing, at Web Summit we met Scott Harrison, the leader and he incarnates the change, the spirit |
